Toyota’s vision goes beyond making cars and trucks. It’s all about hydrogen. In its display at CES this week, Toyota revealed a vision for the future, exhibiting hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and homes. It educated visitors about how hydrogen energy is made and how it is made safe for daily use. Welcome to the Hydrogen Society.
And, in a very bold move, Toyota released its more than 5,500 fuel-cell patents for general industry use. Amazing. This is an example of how industries – automotive, energy and home – are converging around the technology of hydrogen fuel-cells, all being made possible by Toyota. These are the kind of bold innovations we dream of as students of the technology industry. And – while most of the automotive news out of CES was around autonomous vehicles – this is clearly a vision that will have much impact for years to come.
Here are some other automotive developments revealed at #CES2015:
- Mercedes-Benz FO15 Luxury in Motion – A zero-emissions vehicle that can drive itself.
- Blackberry’s Maserati Quattroporte QNX concept – Look ma, no side-view mirrors!
- IEEE’s Mind Control Racing – Use the power of the force and become a Jedi Racing Master
