As the year comes to a close, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take a look at some of the businesses and industries with the potential to have a big impact on Michigan in the coming year:
- Construction of M-Rail – Although not expected to be operation until late 2016, this has the potential to draw plenty of new businesses and new jobs to the area as people will be able to travel through the city quite easily on this 3.3 mile route once completed.
- Automotive – However, we cannot completely count out the automotive industry in Michigan. U of M’s recent economic forecast predicts that the auto industry will continue to grow, creating jobs in the state, making the state more enticing to move to, resulting in more young talent in Michigan.
- Beer – Michigan loves beer. It’s a fact. With the recent news that craft beer just pushed past Budweiser in total barrels shipped in 2014, the opportunity for continued growth in this market is huge. As a consistently top-ranked state for craft beer, this is an area where Michigan could flourish in 2015.
These are all things that marketing professionals in Michigan and the country should be aware of and here’s why: The construction of the M-Rail has potential to completely change the conversation around Detroit, an automotive-focused city that is embracing public transportation and reducing the need for cars. However, communicators can’t ignore where we came from as automotive will still remain important to the Michigan economy. With the growth of other industries such as craft beer, there may be an emerging market eager for communicators to get the word out.
