62 Seconds with Janet Tyler

What should everyone know about you?
I was a competitive figure skater. Trust me, we're competitive.

Your inspiration?
My business partner and friend, Lisa Vallee-Smith. A true role model. Working mother, wicked smart strategist, great sense of humor and really fun to be around.

Favorite business book?
Good to Great by Jim Collins. We actually had a hedgehog here at Airfoil named Rupert. Now, he lives on a farm with a nice family. Hedgehogs really smell.

Your go-to professional shoes?
I’ve been to several countries in Europe and Asia over the past year. I always seem to come home with a new pair of Crocs. Not the most fashionable but so comfortable.

Somebody hands you $432 and you have to spend it in the next day. What ensues?
A mani/pedi, and I'd buy some type of tech gadget. A pen with a camera in it, a fitness watch, tablet computer, printer or a camera.

Would you rather have the power of flight or invisibility?
Definitely flight

Your school of higher learning?
Eastern Michigan University. Go Eagles!

You have two hours all to yourself. What would you do?
Like this would EVER happen...I'd download a piece of ‘chick lit’ on my Kindle, open a bottle of Savannah Chanelle Pinot Noir from my wine club and read, uninterrupted.

What words do you live by?
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Favorite candy bar?
Kit Kat

What's the proudest moment in your career?
The day we won the eBay Motors pitch. We were up against some big firms. A referral from a Wall Street Journal reporter gave us an edge. Everyone hung around my desk waiting for the client to call. We drank a lot of champagne that night

Favorite Sherwin Williams paint color?
Raindrop. I painted my home office this color.

High school mascot?
Charger. I think it's a guy on a horse?

Favorite high school school teacher?
Mr. Hathaway taught creative writing. That was my introduction to writing.

Favorite really, really short joke?
A guy walked into a bar. Ouch.

Most embarrassing dating moment?
A blind date with a male stripper.

Elementary school nickname?
My maiden name was Janer. Yes, Janet Janer. Nicknames were JJ, Jane, Janey. My husband calls me ‘honey’ and lots of family still call me Tiger.
