Unlike most of my coworkers, I am not a technology junkie.  Call me old-fashioned (or just plain old), but having the latest and greatest gadget, app or software doesn’t excite me.  Function, ease-of-use and the ability to make my life easier or more efficient are the main drivers for me when it comes to adopting new technology.  Boring, I know.  Sure, I’m not afraid to try new things, but they usually fall by the wayside pretty quickly if I don’t feel an impact.  After all, doesn’t it all come down to what makes us feel good?  Feeling more organized, more efficient, more creative, more engaged and smarter (still working on this one).

That brings us to my latest obsession.  I am absolutely obsessed with Microsoft OneNote.  Yes, I know this isn’t a new product, but it’s new to me.  I must admit that I was resistant to move away from my old trusty notebooks and didn’t see anything wrong with emailing meeting agendas, follow-up notes and everything in-between.  After all, it’s worked for a long time. 

Well, I guess you could say “worked” as in filling up notebooks so quickly that you miss deliverables pages ago.  And emailing agendas and notes?  Seriously, who out there needs more email?  I definitely do not. 

OneNote is so easy to use and has had a significant impact on my productivity.  Team meeting agendas and notes are all captured in one place for everyone to access and contribute.  My paper notebook and to-do lists have been converted to OneNote and synchronized with my phone.  The OneNote phone app allows me access to everything whenever I want.  I’m now on a mission to integrate OneNote further into the organization – watch out ‘Foilers, I’m coming.  Simple solution = powerful results.
