SILICON VALLEY and DETROIT – August 14, 2013 – Airfoil, a technology marketing communications and public relations agency, was honored by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals as a winner of a 2013 Gold Hermes Creative Award for the LinkedIn Product Yearbook in the E-Communications/E-Report category.

“It’s thrilling to be recognized for this prestigious award; it demonstrates our ability to tell a story without relying on words,” said Airfoil graphic designer Elizabeth VanStee. “Our creative approach to showcase a myriad of new LinkedIn products within a nostalgic yearbook theme, resulted in a beautiful, visual compilation of a year’s worth of achievements.”

In a marketplace where social networks are rapidly evolving, the LinkedIn product team was busy introducing dozens of innovative products for the world’s largest professional network. As a result, the product communications team was tasked with introducing the new LinkedIn to the world. By the end of the year, the team set out to create a celebratory summary of the product achievements and momentum that had accumulated over twelve months.

The objective was two-fold: drive internal employee and partner enthusiasm for the impressive product results and showcase to media how each new product further exemplified LinkedIn’s mission for professionals worldwide.

To highlight a year of accomplishments, the team turned to the time-honored tradition of a yearbook. Instead of showcasing the prom court and drama club photos, LinkedIn products were the milestones to remember. The visual format enabled the communications team to clearly articulate the biggest successes of the company, while reinforcing their broader vision. The team worked to create the graphic treatment that gave a nod to the high school yearbook complete with Polaroids, lined paper and handwritten font.

“This serves as a testament to our team’s ability to develop a fun, visual approach that encapsulates a monumental year for LinkedIn,” said Airfoil co-CEO Lisa Vallee-Smith. “With the right blend of strategy, vision and a creative eye, we created an outstanding product showcase.”
